WELCOME TO GAITHERSBURG

If you drive 20 minutes northwest on Highway 270 from Washington DC, you will find a quaint historic city dating back to 1765 which was originally called Log Town. Today, it is known as Gaithersburg MD, the 4th largest city in Montgomery County and one of the fastest growing cities on the East Coast spanning over 10 square miles. Gaithersburg MD is home to approximately 58,744 residents and 12,577 families.   

Gaithersburg still houses a historic Old Town, but today, it is also home to multiple new urban communities and subdivisions and high-rise apartments. But even with the urban development, Gaithersburg residents still hold on to the city’s historic heritage of honest and simple living and strong ties to the community.

The Gaithersburg of today is known as a flourishing city standing at the crossroads of the future representing science and technology, research and opportunities. In 2008, the city was ranked 29th by Money Magazine as one of the “Best Places to Live”. 

One big draw to the area is that Gaithersburg is a city with a good supply of jobs. The Metro, Interstate I-270, and state highways 355 and 117 all connect Gaithersburg to nearby employment centers like Baltimore, Washington, D.C., and Northern Virginia allowing the citizens to commute to work but many of the residents’ work at companies located right within the city. 

Since 1961 when the National Institute of Standards and Technology moved its bureau to Gaithersburg, the city has been called of 'Science Capital of the United States. Other large employers in the city include the defense contractor Lockheed Martin, IBM, Global Services, Medimmune, AstraZeneca and Sodexo 

With so many science and technology companies located here, Gaithersburg is an undeniably white-collar city, with fully 87.26% of the workforce employed in white-collar jobs, well above the national average. Also of interest is that Gaithersburg has more people living here who work in computers and math than 95% of the places in the US.

Numerous retailers have also been attracted to the area so residents enjoy a wide array of shopping choices including malls such as Rio Center and Washingtonian Center to the historic Old Town District which offers features a variety of unique stores and restaurants

Other area attractions include the Arthur Hills Championship Golf Course, Blue Mash Golf Course. the family friendly Water Park at Bohrer Park, and the Rio Entertainment Center, which span two levels. And there is a local favorite neighborhood pub O'Malley's, that offers signature sirloin burger to perfectly grilled ribeye steaks along with both Irish and contemporary music daily.
